Join Acres U.S.A. and OCIA for a day of practical learning, farmer-to-farmer discussion, and hands-on insight into organic agriculture. This free field day brings together respected educators, experienced farmers, and land managers to explore soil health, cover crops, and profitable organic systems.
The day begins with a morning conference session and concludes with a guided farm tour at Geiger Farms, where participants will see organic grain production and regenerative practices in action.
This event is designed for farmers, landowners, agronomists, and anyone interested in organic and regenerative agriculture.
This organic farming workshop in Hiawatha, Kansas brings together farmers and soil health experts to share practical strategies for improving soil biology, cover crop systems, and regenerative agriculture practices.
Participants will gain practical insight into:
Building soil health through organic management
Using diverse cover crop systems
Integrating biological principles into crop production
Transitioning to Organic Production
Lessons from real-world organic farming experience
Practical strategies you can apply to your own operation
The event also provides opportunities to network with farmers and members of the organic agriculture community.

Keith Berns is a Nebraska farmer and co-owner of Green Cover, a leading company specializing in cover crop seed, soil health education, and regenerative agriculture systems. Alongside his brother Brian, Keith has helped pioneer innovative approaches to cover cropping, interseeding, and livestock integration, with a focus on improving soil function and farm profitability.

Anneleise Abbott will present “Fundamentals of Organic Farming: Soil, Plant, Animal and Human Health.” Her talk explores the deep connections between healthy soil, productive crops, thriving livestock, and human nutrition — and why organic agriculture plays a key role in building a sustainable food system.

Jack Geiger has participated in certified organic production since 1989. He operates a mixed crop and livestock operation and maintain value added markets. His 30 years in the organic sector as a farmer, educator, ACA board member, and local OCIA chapter member give him a broad perspective of the organic marketplace. Jack especially enjoys engaging with new and beginning organic producers.

Acres U.S.A. is North America’s oldest publisher on production-scale organic, ecological and regenerative farming. For more than 50 years, our mission has been to help farmers, ranchers, market gardeners and land owners grow food profitably and regeneratively
We offer a full range of educational products — including books and pamphlets, a monthly magazine, webinars, podcasts, online courses and both large-venue and on-farm events — to help producers find timely, practical and well-tested knowledge and advice on just about any agricultural topic
Acres U.S.A. is committed to providing information about agricultural production systems that can regenerate the soil, support the farmer and rancher, and bring healthy, nutritious food to the consumer. We bring both new and time-tested voices to the discussion of “what is to be done” when it comes to building soil health, raising healthy animals and growing nutritious crops. We amplify the work of modern agricultural leaders and innovators, and we support all efforts to increase the resilience of our farms and ranches — and the people who anchor and feed our nation.
The books we sell, and the speakers at our events, and the editors of our monthly eNewsletter and farmer-facing website represent generations of experience in building — not mining — soils. The lessons they teach are fundamental: to farm economically, one must do so ecologically.
